This guy has more potential than ability. He wants a lot of money for a so so possession player with poor shot suppression. He does not have enough skill to make his own line go. I think they overpaid for him a tad. The real question is do they really need this player and for what?

hes a good player, not bad points for his role ont the 3rd line, yet does get #1 pp time. Overall, thats the going rate, we will see if he steps it up. The deal is a bit over a shoulder shrug. Not great, Not bad. He gels nicely with the team so lets keep him.

If Tanner hates it, then it must be a good deal.

He's soft and a giveaway machine. I watched 90% of Caps games last year, he has his moments but I'd rather have seen a trade. Also like to see Backstrom back to form, he's getting soft too, he's too comfy in Washington now, needs new scenery and they could get a great return. Big contract, kids = soft and inconsistency. Just sayn'.

The Caps paid the going rate/top money. It's all dependent on the up coming season. He is versatile and does help as need be. At the same time I wouldn't rule our trading him prior to next season as the Caps have a number of contracts to juggle and cap space will be at a premium. Now if they can dump the Orpik contract that would be a huge help.
